Father, Dear Father
(Prayer of a Middle-Aged Man)
By Erick Sahler
Lord
As I grow
Into an old man
Please honor this simple plea
That each day I become
A little more tolerant
Of those all ’round me
And if I should start
To harshly opine
As old men are apt to do
Remind me of
The way that I felt
When they labeled my beliefs taboo
You alone, Lord
Are the judge
Of all that is right or wrong
Let us seek
Not to condemn
But, rather to just get along
Amen
